How does online study work?

Online and blended learning is a popular option for many students – especially those keen to combine study and work. At William Blue you can study our nationally accredited programs through a purpose designed online learning platform. You choose to study when and where you want within a structured 12-week trimester – even if you travel regularly, have existing work commitments, or don’t live near campus.

Blended learning

Blended learning is also available for students who would like to mix online and on-campus study. As an on-campus student you are able to take most of William Blue’s subjects offered online to replace an on-campus class. This is ideal for students whose work and/or family commitments make it difficult to attend all their classes at the actual College.

A Course and Career Advisor can assist you with choosing the optimal mix of online and on-campus studies to complete your qualification.

Why study online?

Study anytime, anywhere

You can study when and where you want within a structured 12-week trimester, tailoring your study to suit your lifestyle. You can choose to study full or part-time depending on your availability and ambitions.

Depending on your course, you can move between online and on-campus study each trimester, or choose blended learning wherever possible.

International students
A maximum of 25% online course study is available to international students studying in Australia.

Study with like-minded people

Choosing to study online degrees and diplomas doesn’t mean that you will miss out on social and networking opportunities. You will be studying with like-minded classmates and dedicated lecturers throughout the course, and establish meaningful relationships online. Studying online is a social experience in which many of the activities require you to participate in group work using platforms such as discussion forums, message boards, blogs and wikis. Your progress can be monitored with online self-review quizzes and you can receive immediate results and feedback.

Personalised support

Each online subject has a dedicated lecturer who guides the students’ learning experience and facilitates interactive discussion. This generates a community of learning. Lecturers also offer one-on-one academic support and provide personal assistance. Lecturers mark assessments online and provide feedback through the learning portal.

Online library
You will also have access to a range of support resources such as the Think Online Library catalogue which has access to more than 70 million online articles through a range of leading data bases. Login to the online library through the Learning Portal.

Academic support
If you’ve spent an extended period away from study, or just need to learn how to write an essay, academic support is available online (and at every campus) through TULC  – the Torrens University Language Centre.

Administrative support
William Blue has a dedicated team of online student support staff. This team provides an initial orientation and then ongoing proactive support for students throughout the lifecycle of their studies, online counselling is also available to students.
